Dear Candidate

Thank you very much for your interest in the post of Director of the National Skills Academy for Social Care.

The Academy is the newest addition to the range of agencies intended to transform social care for the benefit of those who use services and the wider community.

As Chair of the Steering Group, given the responsibility for turning a vision into an organisation, I have been overwhelmed with the range of interest and support the Academy has received from employers, government, membership organisations and colleagues concerned with learning and skills more widely.

Social care services are all delivered by individuals who can only give of their best if they have the learning and training they need and are inspired and led to put it into practice. The Academy’s challenge and opportunity is to help employers make all this possible. Our director will need to understand and model excellence as an organisation and in all it does, so that the Academy acts as an exemplar of what it believes in. Users of services and the people who work in them deserve no less.
